T三级成人视频he unstated truth about the best 4K televisions that none of the manufacturers want you to know is that, in terms of visuals, they’re basically quite similar.
三级成人视频Why? The clue's in the name. 4K refers to the amount of pixels across a horizontal line of the TV's screen – 4,000, give or take. Once you have 4,000 pixels, there's not loads you can do to squeeze more quality out of them. As long as you're looking at reputable brands, you'll find the picture on one 4K TV is pretty comparable to any other.
三级成人视频However, that's not to say all 4K TVs are created equal. They aren't. In testing and reviewing the options on the market, I've learned that there are sizeable discrepancies – such as the brightness the television can spit out. Brightness can make all the difference. Televisions which feature Ultra HD Premium are generally a lot brighter and capture a better range of colours. Side by side, the difference is noteworthy.
三级成人视频There’s a lot of tech speak behind this, but the simple thing to do is to look for the Ultra HD Premium sticker from the UHD Alliance, which is the industry standard for ultra HD viewing. Televisions with the sticker are generally the better ones. They do tend to cost slightly more than those without the sticker, but the quality speaks for itself.
T三级成人视频hat being said, ultimately, if you buy a 4K TV (also often referred to as ultra HD TVs – it's the same thing) you can expect to get a really good quality picture. Significantly better than what you’d see on a standard or even HD TV. That holds true no matter what model you get from which manufacturer.
三级成人视频When picking between different ultra HD TVs, it’s the extra features that’ll make all the difference. In my reviews I found huge differences in sound systems, remote controls, user interfaces, and, frankly, the general look of the product are often better deciding factors than picture quality.
Should you buy one now? Well, 8K TVs are coming – the first were shown off at the IFA tech conference in August this year. However, as with any new tech, they're much more expensive than 4K and, honestly, I couldn't see much difference when I looked at the screens side by side. I'd say you're safe sticking to ultra HD for the time being.
三级成人视频Here's what I found while searching for the best 4K TVs out there, starting with my favourites...
1. Sony Bravia AF8
Why we like it: A treasure trove of easy-to-use features which give the most immersive television experience on the market.
Simply put, Sony's Bravia AF8 is the best of the best when it comes to 4K TVs.
It goes without saying that the picture on this television is absolutely brilliant – and, actually, slightly more brilliant than most other 4K TVs. Yes, I know I said there’s not a huge amount of difference between various 4K TV brands, but there is one slight caveat: most 4K TVs don’t come with Dolby Vision built in.
Dolby Vision is the latest in high-definition technology, closer to what you’d get in a cinema than on a standard TV. The depth of the light and shadow is much more lifelike than you’ll be used to seeing on a television screen. For example, if a character shines a torch at the camera, you won’t just see a bright flash, you’ll be able to make out the actual bulb of the lamp. I watched a section of Netflix's recent Lost In Space on it and was absolutely blown away by the footage which, at least to me, seemed just as good if not better than cinema quality.
Only a few televisions are licensed to use Dolby Vision at the moment (those from Sony and LG) but it’s probably not long until it becomes a standard feature for 4K TVs. For those who want to future-proof their devices, this is as good as you can get.
The other really cool feature of the Sony Bravia AF8 is the Acoustic Surface, which turns the screen into one big speaker. I won't get into the technicalities here – it's complicated – but I will happily explain the two very big advantages of the Acoustic Surface. Firstly, because the technology is hidden in the back panel of the TV, behind the screen, you get brilliant quality audio without the need for an expensive soundbar. And secondly – this is where things get really三级成人视频 impressive – the technology makes sounds emanate from their on-screen point of origin. So, say you're watching a film with multiple characters talking on screen, the sound of their voices will actually come from where their mouths are on screen. It makes the whole experience of watching incredibly immersive and really helps your viewing come to life.
三级成人视频Those two are the big features, but there are plenty of other little gems that prove helpful too. For example, the remote contains a microphone with Google Assistant built-in. This means you can simply ask the television to play your favourite movies, or open Netflix, or start something on YouTube rather than clicking the buttons. You can also sync it with your other Google devices to start up your Roomba or turn on the lights, for example. Finally, you can get calendar updates and the like to your television too if you ask for them. I found the whole thing really intuitive thanks to Google Assistant, which is one of the more powerful voice assistants out there. Compared to Samsung's offering which is a little fiddly, this one just felt absolutely seamless.
Sony televisions are the only major developer on the market that comes with an Android operating system as standard, meaning your television will have access to the Google Play store. That means you’ll have a huge variety of apps and games to download, in contrast to other brands which only allow apps recognised by the developers.
2. Samsung Q9FN
Why we like it: 三级成人视频A good family option. The picture shines, the lag is invisible (which makes gamers happy), and a cunning design does away with all those annoying cables that congregate around the back of your normal TV.
W三级成人视频ith a big, bright, colourful screen and a wealth of options for connecting to speakers, soundbars, mobile phones and other smart home appliances in Samsung’s eco-system, Samsung’s flagship Q9FN basically ticks all the boxes.
三级成人视频In terms of the physical design, the Q9FN is a premium piece of tech. It looks absolutely gorgeous. It's skinny, and doesn't have a chunky base bolted to the bottom. The slim black frame ensures you get as large a picture as possible and the screen works some sort of technical magic so that you won't be bothered by glare from windows.
The TV comes with Samsung’s One Connect box, an idea so brilliantly obvious that it’s genuinely shocking other people haven’t adopted it. The concept is simple (duh!): instead of plugging your Sky box, your PlayStation, your Blu-Ray player, and your antenna cable directly into the back of your television, you plug it all into the box which connects to the TV via one wire.
Its genius is twofold. For starters, the connecting wire comes in various lengths, so you could conceivably store the One Connect box one one side of the room and have the wire tracing the skirting boards to connect to the TV on the other side. It also ensures that the television can be sleeker, without dozens of unsightly cables sticking out of the back. Plus that means there are fewer less cables for you and your family to be tripping over and getting tangled in.
Design aside, the Q9FN also impresses in terms of its functions. Samsung’s televisions eschew OLED technology in favour of QLED (quantum LED), so the colours tend to be that bit more vibrant than in the other competitors’ models. Of course, compared to Dolby Vision, it's not quite as cinematic, but I was impressed while watching BBC's ultra HD TV flagship show Planet Earth 2.
Like the rest of the televisions featured on this list, you can use different modes such as Movie mode, TV mode, and Sport mode, but either way you’re getting a really top notch picture every time. That being said, I did think the Dolby Vision on Sony and LG models were a little better at showing detail and shadow – though there’s no denying the colour vibrancy on Samsung’s product.
Finally, there’s the user interface to consider. Samsung has packed a lot into their UI, which is good quality and gives you a lot of bang for your buck. The home menu goes along the bottom of the screen when you press the button, and you can shuffle the tiles to put your favourite apps nearer the front for ease of access. It’s handsome enough and reasonably intuitive, which is handy because Samsung’s simplified remote strips away most of the buttons in favour of voice commands.
Those commands can be a little patchy and not always as intuitive as you might expect. Those familiar with Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa, might be familiar with saying something like "Alexa, play the trailer for The Meg on YouTube", whereas Samsung’s remote would prefer you to simply bark ‘The Meg YouTube’ at it. It’s fine, but considering voice commands are becoming more conversational, it’s something Samsung might want to consider adjusting in future updates. (Samsung’s much-maligned AI voice assistant Bixby is nowhere to be found on the television – although he does show up on American models, I’m told.)
The Q9FN excels in another area: it's the best 4K TV for gaming that I tested. There's no lag whatsoever. Lag is the time delay between pressing a button and your character doing that action. On most TVs it's basically unnoticeable, a few milliseconds. On the Q9FN, it's as close to 1:1 as you can get outside of a specialist PC monitor. When quick reactions and high-speed movements are important, like in popular games like Fortnite and Overwatch, this is seriously important.
三级成人视频The television also features dynamic frame rate control in games which support the feature. This means that it will slow the frame rate when necessary to give extra processing power to graphics engines or whatever else your console needs the computing space for. In short: it gives a buttery smooth performance throughout. And that will get the gamer in your family very excited indeed.
三级成人视频In addition, the television can get notifications from your other Samsung products. Your washing machine could, for example, send a notification to your television to let you know the cycle is done midway through your movie. Obviously the feature is optional, but it might prove helpful for busy households.
The sound quality is fine, but the Q9FN doesn't compete with Sony’s Acoustic Surface gimmick. Look, it’s got a solid sound system, but do yourself a favour and buy a soundbar. You’ll thank me later.
I三级成人视频f you’ve got a bit less budget to work with then it really might be worth investing in a Samsung NU8000 (), which is a pared down version of the Q9FN. Honestly, I guarantee you won’t notice the difference in terms of picture quality, even though, according to the official tech specs, it isn't as good. I watched the same content on the two televisions at the same time and didn't notice a difference.
Samsung have made the NU8000 more affordable by cutting away at the extras, so the TV doesn't have ambient mode and that means it can't display a clock, a picture, or play music while you're not using it. It's also not compatible with the OneConnect box (shame), and it sits a little further out from your wall than the pricer option.
4. LG E7N
Why we like it:三级成人视频 Brilliant sound quality, with a neat and powerful in-built soundbar.
The screen itself is a work of art on LG’s E7N. A beautiful panel of clear, transparent glass sits right in front of the OLED screen, giving flawless, pure pictures every single time. Like Sony’s AF8, it also has Dolby Vision, ensuring the picture quality is top notch. It also makes the television as skinny as can be, so it’ll take up far less space than you might expect: under 6cm if you don’t include the stand.
三级成人视频However, it’s not the screen but the sound that really makes this particular television stand out from the crowd. The race to become as slim as possible has left plenty of televisions bereft in terms of speaker quality, forcing buyers to invest in expensive soundbars alongside their pricey new televisions.
T三级成人视频hankfully that’s not the case here as the LG E7N’s chief selling point is its built-in soundbar, which forms part of the stand. While it can’t boast the immersion of Sony’s Acoustic Surface design, there’s no denying that LG is superior in terms of actual sound quality. It can go louder and more detailed than basically any other television out there and the bass is significantly better quality than Sony’s offering.
T三级成人视频hen there’s LG’s Magic Remote. This is likely to be a Marmite feature. A quick shake of the remote brings up a cursor which you can use to point and click on the screen. It’s a bit like using those ubiquitous Wii remotes of the late 2000s, albeit with some significant upgrades. The Magic Remote has some basic voice control (though nothing like the aforementioned Google Assistant found in Sony’s device) but it’s mainly about the motions. There’s also a scroll wheel like a computer mouse which makes flicking through channels easier than ever.
三级成人视频For what it’s worth, I enjoyed using the Magic Remote and did think it made things quicker and easier when selecting channels and programs, though I expect many will view it as a novelty. Thankfully, though the Magic Remote does come supplied with the TV, it is optional and a more traditional remote also comes in the box.
5. Hisense Roku TV
Why we like it: The price
H三级成人视频isense is a brand best known for its budget 4K TVs. While the Chinese firm might not have the same pedigree as the likes of Samsung or Sony, it’s also a very solid device for the price.
三级成人视频The screen itself is about what you’d expect at this price. It’s got HDR (not HDR10+ though) so it’s certainly bright but not quite as jaw-dropping as the pricier options out there. I felt the colours lacked warmth sometimes, though you can adjust to your heart’s content and try other preset options. The “Movie” option was my favourite configuration, but there are options for sports, gaming and a few others.
I was more impressed with the speakers, which are genuinely rather good, offering plenty of volume and a surprising amount of definition. This is unusual because in general, as TVs have got slimmer, the amount of room for decent speakers has been squeezed out (hence the need for TV soundbars三级成人视频). But top marks for sound here.
三级成人视频Having Roku baked into the TV’s operating system means you’ve got a smart TV from the off, capable of streaming from Netflix, Amazon, and the like, as well as connecting automatically to Freeview channels. I also enjoyed the Roku “My Feed” feature, which allows you to register movies and TV shows you’re interested in to get alerts when they’re available to download or stream. It’s all really easy to follow and intuitive, which is more than I can say for some of its competitors.
O三级成人视频ne irritant regarding the software is Roku’s insistence on jumping back to a Home menu whenever you turn it on, rather than going straight to an HDMI input. This meant, for example, that rather than being able to turn on the TV and jump straight into a game on my PlayStation, I had to manually navigate the Roku menu each time. It’s not a huge problem but it seems an unnecessary niggle, especially for those with a lot of devices like BluRay players, streaming or satellite boxes, games consoles and more.
All in all though, it’s hard to be too annoyed with Hisense and Roku for anything on this TV because frankly, at this price you’re getting a bargain. Those who’ve been thinking about making the 4K upgrade but don’t want to spend a fortune, look no further.
6. Sony Bravia A1
Almost exactly the same in terms of features as our favourite pick of the bunch, the Sony Bravia AF8 but with a kickstand which the television rests on.
三级成人视频That means this particular product takes up significantly more room than any others in this list. If you’ve got plenty of space or a large TV stand, that might not be a huge problem, but considering televisions are getting slimmer and sleeker every day, that does leave it looking weighty by comparison.
Even so, considering it is packed with all the same incredible features as the AF8 but costs hundreds of pounds less, you might be able to overlook that particular design choice.
7. Panasonic FZ802B
The Panasonic FZ802B is a perfectly fine TV, a good one even, but it lacks any compelling features that would help it compete with Sony or LG’s offerings. If you want a big TV or you see it discounted to significantly less than its competitors, this is worthy of consideration. Otherwise, I'd go for one of the models above.
8. Samsung NU7120
Ultimately, you’re buying a budget product with this one so you will notice some drawbacks compared to the higher end models. The sound quality isn’t anywhere near as good as others in Samsung’s range and the picture is definitely less vibrant than you might see elsewhere (it isn’t an Ultra HD Premium screen). Still, in terms of value, it's not too bad. Plus, most of the cheaper ultra HD TVs out there are seriously ugly and Samsung's effort stands out as by far the best looking at this end of the market.
9. Samsung Frame
If the idea of people knowing you own a television is abhorrent to you, or the only space you’ve got for a television is in your own personal art gallery, the Samsung Frame is the one for you. It is, for all intents and purposes, a 4K TV with most of the same functionality as other Samsung products. It’s chief selling point though, is that it sits on your wall and looks exactly like a frame.
It also comes loaded with literally hundreds of pieces of artwork for you to display on it, which you can choose to show with or without a mount. A sensor on the bottom of the television tracks the time of day and light levels and adjusts accordingly, so you can see how the light hits the art at different times. You can even buy different colours magnetic bezels to help the TV better blend in with its environment. It’s a gimmicky idea, but it’s easy to see why people would enjoy it.
10. Toshiba X9863
I三级成人视频n the past, Toshiba’s 4K TVs were seen as a bit of a joke. The manufacturer was the only one who decided to launch an ultra HD TV without HDR support, which sort of defeats the reason for having 4K in the first place. Still, this year Toshiba is back with a new range, and HDR is included. Ultimately, Toshiba’s products tend to be a little cheaper and a little lower in quality than their rivals (not that the average person will notice in any significant way.) Unlike Panasonic though, Toshiba have at least tried to do something new: their new televisions all support Amazon’s Alexa. Users with an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot will be able to use their smart speakers to interact with the television. It’s a handy feature for those who frequently find themselves losing the remote.
Frequently asked questions about 4K TVs
What is 4K and Ultra HD?
三级成人视频The term 4K refers to ultra-high-definition screen resolution, which comes in at 3,840 x 2160 pixels. Manufacturers and brands often refer to these as 4K UHD or 4K Ultra HD, or just UHD, although in practice these all mean the same thing.
But more simply, 4K TVs have four times as many pixels as 1920 x 1080 (or 1080p) HD TVs (often referred to as full HD), or around eight million pixels in total. What 4K offers is an exceptionally crisp picture, more detailed than standard HD, that can be blown up onto much larger screens.
三级成人视频8K televisions are capable of offering four times the number of pixels as 4K televisions.
Essentially, from best picture quality to worst the hierarchy goes:
- 4K/Ultra HD
- Full HD
- HD Ready
- Standard Definition
Do I need a 4K TV?
Until very recently there were few programs or films that were even 4K ready, with a trickle of videos on Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube supporting the format. However, nowadays, more and more productions are filmed on 4K as standard.
If you want the best viewing experience or a large TV of 50 inches or more it is time to settle on a 4K.
三级成人视频And nearly all 4K TVs have a the ability to 'upscale' standard HD content. Essentially this involves touching up the image to make it appear higher quality on the ultra HD display, due to the fact 4K has four times the pixels of normal HD. More expensive 4K TVs are likely to be better at upscaling than some cheaper models. Sony and Samsung’s picture processors are considered to be the best at upscaling, but Panasonic is definitely a near runner-up.
What can I watch in 4K?
There are now more 4K videos supported by Netflix, Amazon Prime and Youtube, although the format is far from universal. On Netflix, there are now more than 100 titles in 4K while Amazon Prime Instant Video has been supporting 4K films and series since 2015. For Netflix you will also need to spend a little more to watch 4K with its Premium service.
Meanwhile broadcasters have only been very slowly catching up, with some limited adoption from Sky and BT in the UK. BT introduced BT Sport 4K UHD in August last year, with Sky quickly following suit with the launch of Sky Q. For gaming, ultra HD has been available for those using PCs for sometime, but 4K now has support from the PS4 Pro三级成人视频 and Microsoft's Xbox One X.
Is my broadband fast enough?
This could be the kicker of whether you should be upgrading to a 4K TV. The was around 54Mbps (megabits per second) in 2019. However, this can vary significantly, with rural areas generally being a lot slower. Netflix recommends a minimum of 25mbps to stream ultra HD titles, so in some cases you may be limited to downloading at a slower rate for your 4K videos.
What about 3D and curved TVs?
T三级成人视频he deluge of advertising geared at pushing an adoption of 3D TVs has died. LG, Sony and Samsung have all dropped support for the gimmicky plastic specs from their latest models, but it is still available on some devices.
三级成人视频Many tech commentators speculate of a similar death for curved TVs. Curved TVs can create a more immersive experience, particularly on larger sets. The major drawback is the "sweet spot" for watching the TV is a little smaller, so if you have multiple viewers at different angles they may not always get the best picture.
How much should I pay?
T三级成人视频hings have changed in the last few years and you no longer need to drop thousands of pounds for your first 4K set. Still, many smaller TVs are considered not worth the price tag. If a small screen is what you want, it's probably not worth paying more than £500 for anything less than a 43 inch screen. For the best results, you will need a screen size of around 50 inches or more, unless you want to sit very close to the screen.
三级成人视频Then there is a high upper limit, or lack of one. An ultra HD TV may cost in the region of £1,500 to £3,500 for the highest quality, while anything more expensive than that is likely a luxury model with an OLED or QLED display and impressive screen size.
三级成人视频Every television on this list is known by a string of numbers and letter which look borderline incomprehensible to anyone who isn’t a tech expert. Of course, this mostly doesn’t particularly matter. However, sometimes television are implied to be completely different products when, in fact, they’re the same model in different sizes, for example.
Every television manufacturer has a slightly different method of assigning model numbers, but when you know what you’re looking for it becomes quite easy to figure out what they’re talking about. The easiest thing to do is to look for the screen size (in inches). This usually comes in the middle of the model number and tends to be somewhere between 40 and 75, though some ultra-premium TVs are upwards of 100 inches. Once you’ve found the screen size, disregard that number and everything before it. What you’re left with is the model number which will help you find your product, regardless of the screensize.
Other key things to consider
Screen size:4K looks best on larger screens, but you do not necessarily need a 75-inch TV that dominates the room to get the best results. Unless you’re dealing with a small space, around 55-inches is probably the minimum you should look at for the best results.
Sound: As TV’s get smaller and slimmer, their in-built speakers are getting smaller and less powerful too. You may want to invest in a speaker system or soundbar for better results.
Connectivity: Check the number of HDMI and USB ports the model has. Four HDMI ports may be necessary if you have several gaming devices.
Brightness: If you plan to watch TV in a dark room then a TV with an OLED screen will give greater contrast and have better blacks and darker colour, in a lighter room the difference will be less pronounced.
HDR compatibility: Given this is such a new technology many video apps or services do not even support the content except on certain TVs. , while Netflix supports most brands.
Jargon buster | A breakdown of bewildering 4K terms
Ultra HD Premium: This sets out quality standards on resolution, brightness, colour and contrast and is signed up to by many of the major TV manufacturers. Not every TV will be Premium (and confusingly Sony TVs don't carry the logo even if they meet standard), but most of the top range models should be.
HDR:三级成人视频Standard dynamic range on most TVs only shows a small amount of colour and contrast that the human eye can see, while TVs with the new high-dynamic-range (HDR) technology offer a deeper levels of contrast, richness and brightness. HDR is one of the latest innovations in TV tech, with several different formats still being worked on.
Backlight vs edge-lit:Most TVs you see will be edge-lit, which are cheaper and are lit from the sides of the screen. TVs with backlighting will be more expensive but are lit from directly behind the screen, providing more brightness and offering deeper and darker dimming.
Nits: These are the measure of light output from your television and is sometimes used in the marketing jargon for TVs. Standard LED screens will measure at 200 to 500 nits, while new 4K models could produce 1,000 nits or higher.
LED vs OLED: 三级成人视频Light emitting diode (LED) screens are the most common type of display, using light emitting diodes to light up the screen. OLED (O for organic) screens light up individual pixels, which can then be turned off to achieve true black colours, while they also have a faster response time to limit blurring and provide great contrast.
QLED: 三级成人视频Launched at industry event CES this year, QLED (Q for quantum dot) is the latest technology from Samsung, which uses particles that are able to radiate far more colours at greater brightness.
Freeview Play:Most 4K TVs come with built in Freeview. Freeview Play allows users to watch anything that has aired on a freeview channel in the past seven days again without having to look through various catch-up services like iPlayer, ITV Player, or 4oD. Sony products come with Youview which is basically the same idea, and other providers offer few different names, but it’s essentially the same thing whatever you call it.
