Former Cardiff City三级成人视频 chairman Peter Ridsdale has paid tribute to Peter Whittingham, who has died at the age of 35, by revealing how Graham Taylor told him the winger was one of the most talented players at Aston Villa.
三级成人视频Whittingham died after suffering a fall in a pub in Barry on March 7 and Cardiff released a statement that said: “We are heartbroken. The news of Peter’s sudden and untimely passing has shaken us to our very foundation. Our love goes out to his wife Amanda, their young son and family. They are at the forefront of our thoughts.”
After signing from Villa in January 2007 for just £350,000, Whittingham became a Cardiff legend by making over 450 appearances for the club during 10 years in which he helped the Bluebirds win promotion to the Premier League三级成人视频 and reach the finals of the 2008 FA Cup and 2012 League Cup.
Ridsdale was responsible for signing Whittingham while he was chairman at Cardiif thanks to a tip from former England and Villa manager Taylor, who himself died in 2017.
“The thing that was amazing was we had little or no money and I had been told by Graham Taylor that Peter was probably the most outstanding talent Aston Villa had got,” said Ridsdale. “He just lacked a little bit of self-belief at the time, but Graham thought he could be a top Premier League player.
“In terms of sheer skill and what he could do with his left foot, he was one of the most talented players that Graham had seen come through. We thought it was a great coup to take him and Martin O’Neill, who was Villa manager at the time, was miffed because he thought he was worth a lot more money than we paid.
“From the day we signed him, Peter was one of the most talented players in the Cardiff team. He was a gentleman, he was quiet, he had a dry sense of humour and sometimes you wouldn’t notice him until he did something special on the pitch. He was just such a nice guy.”
Whittingham also played on loan at Burnley and Derby County, and joined Blackburn Rovers after leaving Cardiff before retiring in August 2018. He also made 17 appearances for England under-21s between 2004 and 2007.
Former Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey, now at Juventus, wrote on Instagram: “I will forever be grateful for you taking me under your wing. You were one of the most technical and gifted players I've played with and that left foot of yours was like a wand.
“I’m proud to have played alongside you and will always remember the young vs old games and you just running the show. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Rest in peace Whitts.”
三级成人视频Ridsdale added: “I am not at Cardiff any more, so it is not for me to say what the club may or may not do, but, in my personal view, it would certainly be appropriate to make a lasting tribute to someone who can be considered a true club legend.
“He was a very, very talented player and he was never an ounce of trouble – the absolute consummate professional.”
