For those of us with young children, the output of Julia Donaldson is as intrinsic to family life as tripping over Lego on the stairs and the background perma-hum of CBeebies. Since Magic Light Pictures began adapting the books for the small screen, their gentle animations have become a firm fixture of Christmas Day too, accompanying (though in our house never replacing) the obligatory viewing of The Snowman.
